Acme Point of Sale Software uses Flic Scanner for Exception Scanning

Acme Point of Sale Software uses the Flic Laser Bar Code Scanner to Increase Shopper Throughput by Speeding the Sale of Items too Bulky and Cumbersome for the Checkout Counter.

Business Situation

As the sole distributor of Acme Point of Sale Software, Total BusinessWare serves the needs of a diverse set of businesses from lawn and garden to furniture retailers. Items carried by these retail customers are diverse and include items that are diffi cult to physically manage. Previously, during the checkout process, retail clerks were physically handling large or bulky items such as lawn and garden supplies, or fumbling with furniture catalogs or string tags. It was not uncommon for heavy items to be lifted to the checkout counter in order to be scanned. This was not only awkward but it slowed customer throughput at checkout lines and threatened worker safety. Total BusinessWare sought to offer its retail clients a Simple and Affordable exception scanning solution that would increase customer satisfaction by speeding the checkout process while eliminating the need for checkout clerks to physically handle large and bulky items.

Solution

Within hours of receiving the Microvision Software Developer Kit (SDK), the developers had natively integrated the Flic Scanner into Acme Point of Sale and the solution was thoroughly tested and approved. Flic Scanner setup and support is handled within the Acme POS software eliminating the need for additional wedge software.

“The Flic Scanner is ideal. Our clients can even deploy them as self service situations in lawn and garden shops or bridal and gift registries. The job of any point of sales solution is to enable the clerk. With Acme and the Flic Scanner, retailers also enable salespeople and customers.” —Bob Brink, President, Total BusinessWare, Inc.

Because the Flic Scanner has built in memory it doesn’t need to be tethered to a computer in order to operate. Now, salespeople simply bring the scanner to the bulky item and scan it in place. After scanning the item’s bar code, the salesperson simply places the Flic Scanner into the dock. Then the Acme Point of Sale software adds the scanned items into a transaction so the salesperson can complete the sale.

Benefits

  • Higher throughput at the checkout line - Less time is spent getting customers to and through the checkout line.
  • Improved workplace safety – Salespeople do not have to risk back strain by lifting heavy items to the scanner.
  • Increased sales - Browsing shoppers can make a “wish list” of the items they are interested in. When they decide to interact with a salesperson, everyone can easily see exactly what items the shoppers would like to pursue. Questions and ideas about possible purchases are less likely to be forgotten.
  • Low initial cost and TCO – Flic Scanners are not only affordable to purchase initially but they are affordable to operate over the long run; standard AAA batteries and no training required.
