Launch, ship…and ‘when can I get a SHOWWX?’

Hey everyone, thanks for positive comments on the launch and first shipment of the SHOWWX.  This news was quickly followed by a lot of questions posted on the Displayground from investors, VIP members, students, and other Displayground followers asking, ’so…when/where can I get a SHOWWX?’  And, although it would be a clever campaign, I want you to know that our marketing strategy is not to make you covet the things you can’t have.

This is what I can tell you. Our very first shipments have already gone to Asia, as we are currently focused on fulfilling the first orders and shipments through our recently announced Asian distribution partner.  We’ve also announced that we’ve signed marketing & distribution agreements in Europe. We can’t tell you the specific details yet as our partners first want to manage their product launch communication plans.  When the details do become public, if you live in the geographic areas that the first shipments are available you might be able to scoop up some of the first SHOWWX laser pico projectors.  If not,  read on…

…We also plan to further build our business through OEM branded products, Microvision branded products sold through other international distributors and Microvision direct sales through its on line store. Each of these channels, in their respective geographic areas, may come on board at different times based on product availability and strategic marketing considerations.  And, since it’s no secret that over the first several months of launch we are supply limited vs. demand limited, we want to set the expectations that not everyone who wants a SHOWWX (even if you signed up to our VIP program) will be able to get one immediately.

As broader availability of product increases over the coming months, we do still plan to offer interested VIP members a direct chance to buy.  And for VIP members, we will communicate via an e-mail as soon as we can details on when/where VIP members can buy a SHOWWX through our growing distribution channels, or via on-line direct efforts.

We’ve launched, begun shipping…and now we’re working as fast as possible to get the SHOWWX to everyone who wants one. These are exciting times at Microvision.

Matt, I can’t thank you enough for your prompt reply.

Now, THAT’s what the blog should be about. I’m very happy to see that all of the questions to the last blog entry did NOT get ignored.

PLEASE continue to provide information ( as much as you can )on a regular basis

    Congrats and Thanks again.

    Ellis

Let me be the first to thank you for clearing up the VIP questions. It is much appreciated. Congratulations on starting to ship. I hope the green laser suppliers can ramp up faster than anticipated meeting the OEMs requirements to jump aboard.

  3. Ken Says:

I would love to see a special VIP model with a memory card slot that can be used to display pics and video without needing to connect an external device, or a projector bundled with a nice portable media player.
I actually hope to replace my old Sony Party-vision in my home living room set up with one of these. The prototypes demonstrated look like a nice step up, way up.
But the idea of taking big screen movies with me camping or wherever is growing on me fast.

In any case, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one, I want one,…………………;)

  4. Michael L Says:

Now this is one of the best and unambiguous posts.

  5. Martin Hillerby Says:

Could you tell us what you “shipped” to Asia? Knowing you are manufacturing the SHOW WX and PEK in Asia, I would have to guess what you shipped were the green lasers from Corning. Is this what you “shipped”?

  6. Frank Says:

thanks alot for the quick response to us blog follower, we appreciate it very much here.

    I would second Hillerby’s question..
My understanding is that assembly is done by Asia Optical in Taiwan, so what is “shipped” from US to Asia exactly? confused.

  7. John Says:

The posting says, “Our very first shipments have already gone to Asia”. This does not mean that they were put on a ship in the US and sailed over to Asia. It means that the shipments of the product were allocated to partners in Asia, from whereever they were manufactured/assembled.

  8. …did not mean to confuse you on what exactly is being shipped. We have begun shipping the commercial SHOWWX product in the commercial packaging with the associated user guide, warranty, cables, battery, etc. It’s the real thing.

Are you sure you can’t be bribed with chocolate chip cookies? It will be interesting to see what happens, when it happens. I teach art, writing and math – and visual literacy is my passion. (Can’t you see striking infographics displayed one-on-one or small group? Or to share the summaries of our classes google docs immediately… and it doesn’t matter where we are?) I can’t think of a better tool for that. I haven’t had a textbook in the (almost) 30 years I have taught, and prefer to pull my resources from unlikely places – I carry most of what I need on my iPod, and I don’t like being stuck to a traditional setting. Untethered and spontaneous is my dream for ‘teachable moments’. I am really happy for you guys – not too excited about my prospects.
Covet, crave or yearn for. Sigh.

Matt – thank you for the update. My only comment would be that this would be good info to actually send to the VIP list as well. Relying on those people to find your blog post sort of defeats the purpose of being on an e-mail distribution list in the first place don’t you think?

  11. ANGELUS Says:

Congratulation for launching, but if I remember well, it had was known as that the people registered with program VIP would be the first to obtain a SHOW WX (above all others), whereas that is not the case.
I find strongly unpleasant the reversal of situation of microvision which does not hold these promises.
Program VIP with only been useful like a market research for microvision. Moreover, we received only 3 messages of program VIP in 8 months, whereas its message per month was to be 1.
But what is necessary to believe in the advertisements of microvision?

  12. Frank Says:

Thanks Matt for the quick reply.
I hope our supply chain continue to strengthen to the point where we can convince the OEMs that our supply chain capability can handle their embedded PicoP demand.

  13. Matt, thank you for comment regarding what has been shipped. That’s great!

  14. Thanks for the blog Matt. Would it be fair to say that the current production rate of green lasers is meeting your expectations or are we stiil ramping up. Thanks Mike.

  15. Tom S. Says:

Great blog Matt. I just have one question (as a shareholder with a very significant interest in our company’s success)how many finished, boxed and ready to ship ShowWX are there in the world as of today? This should be an easy question to answer. We don’t need to know where they are going or any top secret info, just how many are ready now. Thanks so much in advance for your response!

  16. Holly Says:

Great to see this news. Do you have a social media strategy ready to build curiosity and buzz about the product or are you leaving that to OEMs? It was clear at the ASM that the company is focused on the technology, not the marketing. But the most recent ShowWX videos on YouTube are 8 months old — way before the launch. You may be missing a great opprotunity to get people talking. You can also engage us (shareholders) more fully in retweet and blogging and Facebook campaigns (etc.). I understand not wanting to tread on OEM territory, but for anything the company plans to market under its own name, I hope a more active customer-focused social media campaign is about to get rolling. Exciting times indeed, and congratulations thus far!
