After beginning to ship samples of our small form factor display engine, the PSE-0403, in December 2016, we are excited to announce that MicroVision has received its first OEM order.
An Asian electronics device manufacturer placed a $6.7 million order for our PSE-0403-103 model and plans to embed the display engine into a smartphone product later this year. Upon the expected launch in 2017, the product will be available in China and other markets where the OEM has existing distribution of its products.
The company that is designing the smartphone with an embedded projector required an electronics board layout that varied from the standard form of our PSE-0403-101 display engine. In order to meet these requirements, our team was able to quickly design a form factor that could be manufactured by our supply chain partner. This module, PSE-0403-103, uses the same micro-electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICS) components as the standard MicroVision PSE-0403-101 engine with a configuration that supports the design of the OEM’s product.
We expect to begin shipping engines in the second quarter with a large majority of the units shipping in 2017. Actual timing of shipments of the PSE-0403-103 to this OEM will be finalized in line with the OEM’s product launch timing. Other details of the product or agreement between MicroVision and the OEM are confidential.
This order demonstrates how our small form factor display engine, based on our patented PicoP® scanning technology, is suited to applications where small size and power efficiency are required and where flexible design of the module is needed by the OEM.
We look forward to continuing on the path of advancing our laser beam scanning technology for these emerging applications.
