Microsoft to Feature Microvision’s Nomad Expert Technician System Around the World
6/3/2005 9:36:00 AM
BOTHELL, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 3, 2005–Microvision Inc.
(NASDAQ:MVIS), the world leader in the development of scanned beam
displays and imaging products, announced that the Windows Mobile and
Embedded Division of Microsoft Corporation is featuring the Nomad
Expert Technician System worldwide during the month of June in a
continuation of a presentation that Microsoft made at the Microsoft
Mobile Embedded DevCon (MEDC 2005), in Las Vegas on May 11. The Nomad
System will be featured by Microsoft at MEDC events in Korea, Germany,
France, United Kingdom, Malaysia, and China.

MEDC 2005 is the premier event for developers, engineers and
business managers to share and learn more about the latest Windows
Embedded and Windows Mobile platforms and how to build and bring to
market devices and applications.

The Nomad Expert Technician System, the world’s only hands-free
wearable computer with a head-worn, head-up display, enables
technicians and other mobile workers to overlay relevant information
on their tasks, thereby reducing task time and guesswork by
eliminating footsteps. Productivity and service quality are increased,
resulting in higher profitability and customer satisfaction.

In addition to the Nomad System being featured at MEDC 2005 in Las
Vegas on May 11, where Suzan DelBene, Microsoft Corporate VP,
Marketing, Windows Mobile and Embedded Devices Division featured the
Nomad System as a case study in her keynote speech, the Nomad System
was similarly featured at the Global Automotive Summit in Detroit on
April 29th. At the Global Automotive Summit, Microvision was announced
as a partner in Microsoft’s Peak Performance Initiative for the
automotive industry. Microvision’s Nomad System was highlighted during
an exclusive interview of Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates by the Detroit
Free Press on this same day.

Tom Sanko, VP Marketing for Microvision, stated, “We are pleased
to support Microsoft featuring the Nomad System to this worldwide
mobile application development audience. As a result of this ongoing
relationship, we are now in contact with other Microsoft Partners,
ranging from large systems integrators to middleware suppliers to
independent software vendors. We believe that the Nomad Expert
Technician System uniquely supports the growing demand for mobile
workers to more conveniently and effectively access electronic
information. Providing practical and cost effective mobile computing
solutions is a priority for our business strategy and has been a key
focus for Microvision since the introduction of the Nomad System last
year. As a result of our plan to deploy our low cost, high performance
wearable thin client computer with head-up display, we specifically
designed the Nomad Expert Technician System to use the Microsoft
Windows CE .NET operating system coupled with Windows Server 2003 and
Terminal Services. Feedback from customers over the past six months
has been extremely positive, with proven service revenue and
productivity gains of 10% — 25%.”
