BOTHELL, Wash., May 13, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Microvision, Inc.,
(Nasdaq:MVIS), announced today that AvroTec, Inc., (www.AvroTec.com), a designer
and manufacturer of multi-function cockpit displays for small general aviation
aircraft, has joined Microvision’s value added reseller program for the Nomad
Personal Display System.
AvroTec’s suite of moving map software matches well with Microvision’s head-worn
Nomad Personal Display System. AvroTec’s display software package combined with
Microvision’s Nomad System keeps the pilot’s attention focused outside the
cockpit rather than inside, head down. By creating an electronic ‘highway in the
sky’ for the small general aviation aircraft pilot, this enhanced situational
awareness display can improve flight safety and navigation accuracy.
Additionally, the see-through Nomad display system delivers easily readable data
in daylight conditions against both bright clouds and cockpit interior as well
as night sky. The Nomad System does not obstruct the field of view nor prevent
the pilot from performing such cockpit tasks as radio frequency adjustments and
“Expanding their product offerings from head down displays to Microvision’s
revolutionary head-up ‘out the window’ display is a natural progression and part
of AvroTec’s overall corporate roadmap,” said Bruce Westcoat, Microvision’s
market manager for general aviation.
“The Nomad System excels in brightly-lit environments where the pilot needs
continuous access to information in a hands-free and see-through mode. We see a
large marketplace potential stemming from the base of over 200,000 single engine
general aviation aircraft in the US alone. Combine the potential for increased
safety with the overall improvement in situational awareness, and you have a
solid foundation for a very successful Nomad application.”
AvroTec, Inc., is a founding member of NASA’s Advanced General Aviation
Transport Experiments government/industry consortium (AGATE). This alliance was
created by NASA to revitalize general aviation and AvroTec has twice been
elected as Chair of its Executive Council by their Industry peers.
