Microvision’s Bluetooth Flic Laser Bar Code Scanner Integrated with BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds
2/23/2005 9:36:00 AM
BOTHELL, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 23, 2005–Microvision Inc.
(Nasdaq:MVIS), announced today that its application development
partner, Infinite Peripherals, Irvine, CA., has created an application
interface that integrates the Flic(R) Cordless Laser Bar Code Scanner
with Research in Motion’s BlackBerry(TM) Wireless Handhelds. The new
capability developed by Infinite Peripherals offers out-of-the-box
solutions that enable barcode scanning from any Bluetooth-enabled RIM
BlackBerry Wireless Handheld.

Introduced under private label from Infinite Peripherals, the
Microvision Bluetooth Flic bar code scanner has the ability to
integrate with a variety of data collection software applications
residing on the BlackBerry platform. The data can then be seamlessly
transferred in real time to a corporate database using the wireless
capabilities of the BlackBerry device.

Available immediately, the Flic Bluetooth bar code scanner and
application interface from Infinite Peripherals is expected to enable
powerful field force solutions using BlackBerry Handhelds. Application
areas are wide ranging including sales force automation, route
accounting and inventory for packaged goods companies, mobile
technician record keeping and job invoicing, and building and
construction site security.

“The Microvision Bluetooth Flic bar code product provides us with
a simple and extremely affordable scanning solution for our
customers,” said Jeff Scott, Director of Sales and Marketing for
Infinite Peripherals. “As we are committed to giving our customers
access to the peripherals they need for their BlackBerry Wireless
Handhelds, our customers now can have many choices for barcode
scanning ranging from the Microvision Bluetooth Scanner to our
combined printer, scanner and mag-stripe reader.”

Tom Sanko, Microvision vice president of marketing stated, “We are
extremely pleased with Infinite Peripherals application interface
design to seamlessly integrate the Bluetooth Flic scanner with the
BlackBerry Handheld Platform. With approximately 2 million BlackBerry
devices currently in use, we anticipate the Bluetooth Flic Scanner may
become a very popular peripheral component in bundled solutions for
this growing market. Compared to bar code scanning engines that are
embedded into mobile devices, our Flic Bluetooth Scanner is an
inexpensive, simple and battery-saving alternative for third party
developers, application providers, mobile device hardware providers,
and companies with mobile field forces. The Flic Scanner combined with
a BlackBerry Wireless Handheld provides an attractive business
opportunity for developers and integrators that are looking to expand
and service the rapidly growing mobile workforce marketplace.”
