We were invited by our Fortune Global 500 Partner, Sharp, to its debut for its innovative new robot with integrated smartphone functionality, RoBoHoN. A media event was held on the eve of CEATEC Japan 2015 to introduce this exciting new product, and we were very proud to have been part of the product and the launch event.
In collaboration with renowned Japanese designer Tomotaka Takahashi, Sharp designed this 7.5 inch android robot to act as a smartphone, with the added functionality of voice and facial recognition, independent movement (including dancing!) and a built in pico projector.
MicroVision has been working with with Sharp since 2014 to design a display engine based on our patented PicoP® display technology for the specific needs of RoBoHoN. Both teams addressed a unique set of requirements and form factor challenges to give the robot the ability to project information onto a surface from a short distance.
The center of attention at Sharp’s booth, RoBoHoN attracted a continuous line of curious attendees throughout the show. When you see RoBoHoN in person it is hard not to be charmed by this little robot. The enthusiasm we witnessed for the product is a testament to Sharp’s innovative approach at changing the way we look at the traditional smartphone.
We are thrilled to have partnered with this industry pioneer and look forward to our continued partnership on this project.
